Nicole Richie has admitted her trademark minimal make-up look is because she does not know how to apply cosmetics and does not own most everyday make-up items.
Richie, 30, revealed to InStyle that she is useless when it comes to applying make-up and has to go to a salon every time she has a red carpet event to attend.
"I actually don't know how to put on make-up at all. I have to get it done every time I want to wear make-up. I do not know how to wear it at all. It's so bad," she said.
She does not even keep most everyday make-up items in the house.
"I don't even own it. I only own under-eye concealer, Maybelline mascara, and an eyelash curler."
Despite not developing a natural flair with make-up, the reality star-turned fashion designer has become renowned for her sense of style.
She said her father Lionel Ritchie taught her everything she knows about fashion.
"When I was a little girl, my dad would have his costume designer that would make his tour outfits make me matching outfits out of the excess fabric.
"For whatever crazy rhinestone bell-bottom outfit that my dad was wearing with his big Afro, she would make me a dress out of it.”
Nicole now runs two of her own fashion lines, House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate.
