Get Kate's chestnut curls

14:30 AEST Wed Jan 25 2012
It would appear the Duchess of Cambridge's hair is the hottest hair trend in Tinsel Town right now. A whole host of gorgeous celebrities have been stepping out rocking the royal's blow-dry signature style.

Those chestnut waves that are just so super shiny, it's no surprise that Hollywood's elite are turning into Catherine clones and sporting bouncy tresses that are almost identical to the royal.

And it seems it is not just celebs who are asking for the 'Catherine'. UK hair salons have seen an ever-increasing rise in the style since the Royal Wedding.

Celebrity hairdresser Mark Woolley explains, "There definitely has been increases in clients asking for a Kate Middleton cut and blow-dry and it's easy to see why it's growing in popularity. When people ask for this look, it's the fullness and volume they're after and the longer layers work really well to give the illusion of thickness throughout the hair.

"The shine is also a major factor and this is enhanced when the hair is at its smoothest, even within the waves which fall gently and neatly. The overall look itself is one of polished elegance, which is befitting of Kate."

Hair salons across in the UK are now offering this as a blow-dry finish too. Here is how to achieve the look at home:

Step one: To ensure the hair is as manageable and frizz-free as possible, prep it after freshly washing by applying some John Frieda FRIZZ-EASE Straight Fixation Smoothing Creme ($16.99) through the lengths. Use your fingers to coat the product evenly from root to tip. Shine is enhanced when the hair is at its smoothest so this is a key step in achieving the overall look.

Step two: Create an off-centre parting and blow dry using a using a curl brush. This helps to minimise kinks as long as you hold the hair taut as you blow dry — make sure you get right in at the roots as well for maximum volume and lift. Keep the roots and mid-lengths smooth but as you reach the ends, wrap them around the brush and hold for a few seconds before releasing to create a gentle curl.

Step three: Once you have worked your way through the hair, allow it to cool before ruffling the curls with your fingers to help separate the lengths. This creates a more natural look and makes the hair appear thicker and fuller as the curls bounce off each other.

Step four: Brunette hair naturally absorbs light so to help create the shine that Kate has in hers; you can smooth a small amount of non-oily serum onto the mid-lengths and ends. This will also help to tame any stray hairs or you can add a veil of shine all over with L'Oréal Professionnel Crystal Gloss ($25) to create a multi-dimensional effect that should intensify and illuminate the look.
