YBS: Nicola Burford

Nicola Burford is the senior make-up artist for MAC Cosmetics in Australia, and will be blogging for YBS while working at the Milan and Paris Autumn/Winter '08 ready-to-wear shows. Check out the tales from her make-up kit!

Ahhh ... shoes and make-up!

, Prev Next I love Paris. Did I say that already? I really love Paris. Everything is just so ... French! The little dogs in shops, stylish people everywhere, the architecture, the art — every corner you turn is picture-book perfect.

And don't even let me start talking about the shoes. On my way to the MAC store I had to walk down (well, I chose to walk down) Rue de Grenelle (aka shoe street). And it's torture: Sergio Rossi, Christian Louboutin, Prada, and other boutique stores all luring me in ... but no. Must ... stay ... focused ...

Now, for the Manish Arora show. The inspiration: medieval gothic and the lady of the lake; applied in the style of a '60s movie. The look was designed by one of my make-up heroes — Kabuki.

Kabuki is an amazingly creative person — he made silver and crystal gothic armoury masks tailored to each model's head. The skin was paled down and the eyes were made up in a traditional '60s black-and-white carved-out eye. The star products were MAC Smolder and Fascinating Kohl Pencils.

Number 6 Lashes completed the look creating a warrior princess. The ladies of the lake wore completely embellished faces in holographic, silver or silver blue glitter; the models looked like mythical creatures emerging from a moonlit glass lake. The show was so rewarding to work on.

It was lovely to see Aussie model, Hayley, at this show — the Aussie girls rock!

Looking forward to poulet et pomme frites for tea and Vivienne Westwood show tomorrow!

A bientot!
