YBS: Nicola Burford

Nicola Burford is the senior make-up artist for MAC Cosmetics in Australia, and will be blogging for YBS while working at the Milan and Paris Autumn/Winter '08 ready-to-wear shows. Check out the tales from her make-up kit!

With a little help ...

, Prev Next The 18th century grandeur of the Westin Hotel in the centre of Paris provided a stunning backdrop to one of the most creative and fun make-up experiences I have ever had. Make-up director Pep Gay had a little help with the design from London primary school kids!

Vivienne had given the kids fabric to draw on, which she then turned into fantastic creations. The kids were given face charts to draw exactly what they wanted — we then had to reproduce every brush stroke and pattern.

As an artist it was all about letting go — it was okay to draw outside the lines! We relied on MAC PRO chromackes to create the poster-paint-like effect a child's hand would make. Lines, flowers, zig zags, butterflies, swirls, blobs and stripes were colourfully applied. The make-up worked perfectly — yet again showing just why Vivienne continues to be one of the most visionary designers of our time.

Ann Demeulemeester will bring a different mood to make-up tomorrow, I am sure. Watch this space ...

Is this Vivienne Westwood you're talking about? Well I'm not surprised. Personally, I don't find these "creations" particularly appropriate for the catwalk, but then again... I'm not Vivienne.
I love using chromacakes! i think the look is great.Good to see something a little different on the catwalks...
