Woman sues over hair colour, how to make your hair shine, and the tooth brush you'll be rushing out to buy

, Prev Next A US woman* has tried to sue a hair-colour manufacture, claiming her social life was ruined when she accidentally dyed her hair brown with one of its products. Oh yes, this is true.

She says she'll never be able to return to her natural blonde shade (um, isn't that what expert colourists are for?), and has been left so traumatised she needed anti-depressants, suffered headaches and anxiety and, ohmigoodness, missed the attention that blondes receive.

As a result she had to wear hats most of the time. The judge gave her the brush-off.

How much do you value having the right hair colour? Is it worth suing over? Tell me below. *Posed for by a model.

Glossing over the other beauty news that's caught my attention ...

  • Lindsay Lohan's mishap. Note to LiLo: when fake-tanning, feet need to be the same colour as legs. Speaking of fake tan, I discovered the perfect shade last week. I had a wedding to go to, but had no time to get a spray tan the day before. In a bit of a desperate rush, I applied Dove Summer Glow all over, then thinking that wouldn't be strong enough, I quickly followed with St Tropez Whipped Bronze Mousse. And voila! I was the perfect just-back-from-Fiji colour without a streak in sight!

  • Still on fake tan. Manicare Exfoliating Gloves are proving to be my pre-summer beauty routine must-have. And not just for getting ready to faux tan. In a move that could only be described as lazy, I used them (gently) on my face last week. (I couldn't be bothered to get out of the shower to grab my regular exfoliant.) When it came time to look in the mirror, my face was glowing! And smooth! And fresh!

  • Spring clean. If you feel the need to jump on the organic beauty bandwagon this season, don't look past the Juice Beauty Organics to Go pack including the much-hyped about Green Apple Peel. Get yours from Rescu. And speaking of Rescu, they've currently got their Organic Pharmacy range on sale.

  • Beauty school at home. Ella Baché have introduced Stellar — a distance-education program for anyone who'd prefer to learn the world of beauty from their couch.

  • Brilliant brush. Never thought the day would come that I'd rave about a toothbrush, but the Oral-B CrossAction Pro-Health brush is like a party in your mouth. Seriously. Put it at the top of your grocery list next time you head to Coles.

  • Go glossy! For shiny locks, make broccoli seed oil your new secret weapon. Find it in the new Ojon Hair Shine & Protect Glossing Mist and prepare for your mane to sparkle.

  • Get set, go. NP Set — Napoleon Perdis' new collection for Target — is in stores today. Here's a look from the range you'll want to copy.

  • Scents and scentsibility. Balenciaga and Coty Inc have announced a partnership to create, develop and distribute fragrance lines under the Balenciaga name.

  • Two to tango. MAC Cosmetics have announced their partnership with the Sydney Dance Company. They'll be the official make-up supplied for all the SDC productions.

  • Ready to feel old? Australis is celebrating their 21-year anniversary, and have released a set of collector's edition lippies. Available in six shades — don't miss out.

  • Slightly jealous. I gave my sample of Olay Definity Tone Correcting Anti-Ageing Foaming Moisturiser SPF 15 to a colleague to try. Then I interviewed celeb make-up artist Mary Greenwell. And now I want it back.

  • Beat breast cancer. Every year, brands such as Aveda donate cash from the sale of products such as their Hand Relief to help find a cure for breast cancer. Here are four more easy ways to help the cause.

Just went to salon myself. I have long staight blond hair (all one length). The lady that cut my hair made a choice by herself to cut layers (uneven) in the side of my hair. My hair will not look right for a couple of years. leave the blonde alone!!!!
Ok for a start this article is about a home dye-job not a professional job. Sure if the lady paid good money for a professional to ruin her hair she deserves compensation. But as this woman was the idiot (who many have pointed out) obviously didn't read the label, look at the picture or check that the colour in the box matched the one on the outside, or even do a STRAND TEST (as the instructions recommend) then it's her own fault and she deserves no compensation. And if you rely on your hair-colour to have a great social life, you really need to get a personality
When I have a dry, scaly patch on my face between my eyes I am guilty of using an exfoliating glove to remove the peeling skin...my skin goes a bit red for a while but afterwards is really smooth. I think it also helps keep down the acne, as long as you don't rub over pusticles. If the lady bought the colourant and it was the wrong colour in the colourant tube then surely she'd have a case against the manufacturer. That's basic duty of care. No, she shouldn't have got a cent for all that other baloney she came up with (I can't dye my hair back, my life is ruined) but if they stuffed up, they should be made to pay enabling to learn a costly lesson in manufacturing standards.
what an idiot i buy hair dye all the time i even tried to dye my blonde hair a darker shade of blonde only to have it turn green did i sue no i didn't why cause only an diot would try and sue for hair dye haven't you heard of a hair salon moron!
Gee, I'm blonde and I've dyed my hair red and love it. Get over it girl! There's a fun world out there and it doesn't go by hair colour, it goes by personality. No wonder the judge threw it out of court- what a waste of time!
I wouldn't sue over that although I probably wouldn't sue over anything. I think it would be good if someone sued over something like this because haven't we all had a hair disaster where we followed the directions perfectly from the box but the result was in no way what was claimed on the box would happen? It's false advertising often on these products. Or misleading advertising anyway. It's throughout most beauty products hair dyes are very bad because the person has to walk around with hair. Other products like creams that claim to fight wrinkles and etc are just outright lies in their marketing why should it be allowed?
That woman gives natural blondes a bad name. I hate that stereotype that blondes are dumb because it isn't true. But when people like her go out and do something stupid it just makes other people think that there must be something behind the stereotype. The woman is not dumb because of her hair colour, she is just dumb thinking that she could get money out of her stupidity.
Well, its quite obvious the girl is absolutely dumb and dumber or is she? Firstly, did she get an education? if so, then she would have read the label on the packet as stating 'BROWN'. B_R_O_W_N spells brown Yeahhhhh !!! Better yet, girls lets face it , we all colour our own hair once in a while, and you cannot miss the fact that most hair colour products would have a picture of a model whose hair represents that cololur of choice. Its like, its like, its like yeah!
I wouldn't sue if I had done the job myself, which this woman obviously had, as that is my own error, not the manufacturer's, but, if a hairdresser did it, and it caused my hair to go orange or red, then I would want a full refund AND my hair colour fixed. If they refused, then I'd take it further. Thanks also for the loofah tip! Great advice.
I have actually had an experience of purchasing a hair dye from a shop and when I got it home to put through my hair, the tube was a differant colour to the box!!!! Good job i was switched on or I would have had purple hair!!!
