Shaving. Love it or hate it, it's something most of us women encounter daily. So if you're faced with the razor on a regular basis, be armed with these shaving tricks for the smoothest shave you can have.
According to Gillette, hydrating your hair with warm water makes it up to 60 percent easier to cut, so have a shower or bath before picking up your razor. Don't soak in the bath for too long, though after 15 to 20 minutes, water causes your skin to wrinkle and swell slightly, resulting in a shave that's not as close as you'd like.
Make sure your skin is hydrated as there are relatively few oil-producing glands located on your legs. Do this by spending an extra five seconds using a moisture-rich shave gel or cream (such as Gillette Satin Care for Women). This will not only help keep water in the hair, but ensure the razor glides smoothly over the skin. Why are shaving gels and creams better than regular soap? Because some soaps cause dryness and flaking, which may clog your razor.
Using a sharp, fresh blade (for best results), Gillette advises you shave in the direction that feels most comfortable. Use a light touch, exerting as little pressure as possible.
When it comes to tricky areas such as the backs of your knees and your ankles take care. The bone is close to the surface here, making your shaving job a little more difficult. Some razors have oval-shaped cartridges that make manoeuvring around these areas easier.
Rinse your legs thoroughly using cool water to help close the pores, and gently pat your legs dry. Avoid rubbing your skin too harshly and drying off completely. According to Gillette, the extra water on your body will be sealed in as you apply moisturiser, helping to eliminate dry, flaky skin.
Moisturise. If you have sensitive skin, wait a few minutes after shaving before applying a fragrance-free moisturiser.
