Bye-bye summer dresses, strappy heels and showing lots of skin. The cooler months are about covering up, but that doesn't mean you should put your body beauty routine on hold. Yes, it's a little less appealing to get out of your warm clothes and slippers for a pedi and body brush, but looking after yourself is totally worth it and a great way to banish the winter blues.
- Skin can become dry during the cooler months the cold air actually zaps moisture from it. And being in toasty, warm air-conditioned rooms also makes skin less hydrated. Opt for a stronger, thicker moisturiser during the cooler weather, and keep lip balm handy to avoid chapped lips.
- Likewise, you may notice (more) flakes of skin in your hair during winter. This is also because of the temperature changes making your scalp dry. Give a dry-scalp focused shampoo and conditioner a go (such as Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp Shampoo and Conditioner) to nix your dry head.
- Autumn and winter make-up trends call for darker colours: plum, burgundy, brown and navy. For winter chic, follow through with darker nails too. They'll look most polished if they're short and neat, and filed in a "squoval" shape.
- Fake tan will instantly bronze up winter skin, just make sure you don't go quite as dark as you would during the summer months (no point looking like you're heading to a beach party when it's only 10 degrees outside, is there?).
- Who's got the time (or energy) for full-on waxing during winter? Stick with a razor (its fast and convenient) and if you're thinking about having IPL or laser hair removal done, now's the time to try it, as most recommend you keep sun exposure to a minimum while receiving treatments.
- Be bold with your hair colour! Winter is a great time to experiment with darker locks. A little scared? Don't be look how long-time blondes Reese and Cameron looked when they went dark. Tip: Darker hair calls for slightly darker make-up to balance it out.
- While you've got dark(er) hair, make the most of it: a semi-permanent colour rinse will make your hair super shiny, as will products from Pantene's Brunette Expressions range (pictured).
