Space saving beauty for travel

  • Use lippie as a cream blush — smear a little on your cheeks (before powdering your face) and blend well with your fingertips.
  • Coral and bronze-coloured lippies can also be used on your lids as a cream shadow. The same goes for lip pencils of this colour.
  • Eyeliner pencils can also be lightly applied across your lids and smudged with a finger or cotton tip to create the look of eyeshadow.
  • Moisturiser easily doubles as conditioner if you're all out and both moisturiser and conditioner can double as shaving cream. Don't pack separate moisturisers for your hands, feet and even eyes. One type is enough to get you through a holiday.
  • A good gentle, cleanser should be able to cleanse your skin and remove eye make-up, so try not to take both if your suitcase space is limited.
  • Hairspray can be used to hold your 'do and smooth frizzies. To rid frizz on an updo, either spray a tail comb with hairspray and lightly comb over the top, or spray a tissue with hairspray, and lightly "wipe" it over your hair.
  • Try, if you can, to master the art of curling your hair with a straightening iron. This will save you having to pack a curling iron as well, and means you can be versatile with your looks — straight one day, curly or wavy the next!
  • Low, loose sexy buns and side ponies are hot and fast to create. They make for fun, easy holiday hair. As do headscarfs, headbands and beach hair. Forget spending hours blow-drying — it's not worth it!
  • A make-up palette with neutral colours is a girl's holiday essential. It not only saves loads of space in your vanity case, but is easy to pop in your handbag for a night out on the town and you can create a look suitable for most occasions.
  • Cleansing wipes are a holiday godsend. Use them to freshen up your face and body, to remove make-up and to cool yourself down with a quick wipe. They're especially handy when stuck on planes and trains for long periods of time.
  • Remember that some airlines have rules on what you can carry on board with you. Anything aerosol is a no-no and some carriers no longer allow you to take liquids on board. Check with your airline before your departure (you don't want to find yourself tossing your $200 face serum in the security bin!).
