Noughties eccentric pop singer Lady Gaga and the just as naughty '80s diva Cyndi Lauper have joined forces with MAC Cosmetics to assist in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and help curb the spread of the disease.
The outrageously dressed, platform-heeled, rainbow-hair-colour loving duo front the new boudoir-inspired MAC Viva Glam campaign. The program is designed to speak out aloud about women's issues and alert the world about how prevalent HIV/AIDS is among young people today.
According to MAC, Gaga and Lauper want to tell girls all over the world how to keep their love-life safe, seductive and satisfying with eyes wide open to the facts about women and HIV/AIDS.
"People think if you're strong about your sexuality, you must have a d--k," Gaga told WWD.com. "And that's what this is about. You can be strong about your sexuality and be a smart woman who wears lipstick and high heels and looks pretty."
The make-up giant is reportedly set to announce $2.5 million in donations to fund programs globally that address the vulnerabilities and inequities that place women at increased risk for HIV/AIDS.
"We're raising the Viva Glam bar this year with the voices of two incredible artists," said John Demsey, Estée Lauder's group president and chairman of the MAC AIDS Fund.
"Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper are bringing women's issues to the forefront of the HIV/AIDS crisis. We have one artist that hit the music industry at the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, and another that is explosively popular with young people today," he said.
"They represent different generations that are equally as affected by this disease, and both are helping to spread the message of the power of one lipstick."
