Xtreme Lashes eyelash extensions

Tuesday, November 20, 2007
Road test: Xtreme Lashes eyelash extensions.

Aim: To create longer and/or fuller lashes using extensions.

What happens: After your lashes are combed, and the bottom ones are taped down so they're not in the way, you need to lie still for about an hour while each lash is glued to the base of your own lashes. They're made of a synthetic product, and are stuck on one at a time, starting from the outer corners (which are longer) and gradually moving towards the inner corners (which are shorter). It's important that you don't get them wet for the first 24 hours, use oil-based make-up remover or skincare with AHA or BHAs (which will dissolve the adhesive bond), rub your eyes, or use a mechanical lash curler. With the right care, they should last up to two months, although some will fall out as your own lashes naturally shed. Fill-ins are recommended every two weeks.

Cost: $180 for lashes, $100 for fill-ins.

The bottom line: "I had my lash extensions done by Emma at Sharon-Lee Studios in Sydney's Double Bay, and she did a fantastic job — they looked brilliant! In fact, they looked so good I felt like there was no need to wear any eye make-up. I just wish they had lasted a bit longer — being so delicate, I found they started to fall out quite quickly.'' — Bree, Your Beauty Spot beauty ed
