Not since ‘our Jen’ took out the Miss Universe crown in 2004 has a Miss Universe Australia winner caused so much excitement. 21-year-old Townsville model Rachael Finch had favourite status heading into this week’s final – and while she missed out on the Miss Universe crown, she did take home a respectable fourth place behind Miss Venezuela.
Since Jennifer Hawkins became the first Australian Miss Universe since 1972, Aussies have had a renewed interest in the contest. These days Jen has lucrative contracts with Myer, Lovable, Lux and CoverGirl and a gig as a TV presenter.
Similar success is predicted for Rachael Finch. Some commentators have speculated she could earn up to $10million as a result of her new found fame. Like Jennifer, Rachael is keen on a small-screen career. "I would love to work as a television presenter or even take acting lessons and eventually work in film," she said following her fourth placing.
